The factors that cause acne have been intensely discussed. Is it nature or nurture? They are very good for your health as they contain probiotic properties which can calm the inflammation and lower the IGF-1 levels. Also, soy and almond milk are an excellent alternative.
What about carbohydrates?
They are also a dietary contributor to acne. The glycemic index of food is a measure of how fastly it can raise the blood sugar levels. High-glycemic foods trigger the production of growth and sex hormones, which make your acne worse by promoting inflammation. When you ingest food with a high-glycemic index, it stimulates the production of the insulin.
Insulin is the hormone responsible for bringing your blood sugar levels back to normal. If your blood sugar is increased drastically, there’s also a spike in the insulin production and then a sudden drop in the blood sugar levels due to insulin’s efficacy. Insulin also stimulates the production of sebum.
Foods like bread, sugary soft drinks, cakes, pastries have a high glycemic index. Try to replace them with fruits, vegetables, legumes, nuts or other minimally processed grains.
